John Metcalfe
is a managing director at TCG Advisors. John has executive-level
operational experience in marketing, sales, and general management
inside both large corporations and small companies operating domestically
and internationally.
John has developed
intellectual property in marketing strategy and category evolution.
Focus
of Advisory Activities
John's passion is turning emerging technologies into successful
product categories and for the strategy challenges that process
creates. He has a track record for building new product categories
in both small start-ups as well as large established corporations.
Consulting
Base
John is a consultant to New Enterprise Associates and other prominent
venture capitalist companies. He has helped a wide range of venture
capital backed companies by undertaking interim CEO/executive positions,
market strategy consulting, portfolio assessment, business plan
analysis, and providing guidance for financing.
Before
TCG Advisors
Prior to developing his consulting business, John held pre-IPO executive
level positions at start-ups Genesys Telecom and GetThere. In the
mid-80s at Silicon Graphics he was VP of Entry Systems Marketing
and VP Intercontinental. Prior to that he held positions at Hewlett-Packard
for 10 years both in Europe and the US including Marketing Operations
Manager Europe and Worldwide Director of Office Automation Marketing.
Before joining HP, John conducted research as a faculty member at
London Business School and was a software development engineer with
ICL Computers. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Heriot-Watt
University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
